Sides & Transom Attached

Attaching Chine

  • Make all frames first
  • 1/4" Exterior plywood
  • 3/4" beveled pine frames
  • Titebond II glue
  • 3/4" Silicon bronze RS nails
  • Chine logs from 3/4" x 1" with 11 degree bevel
  • PL Premium adhesive
  • Use #6 x 3/4" screws to hold chine in place
  • Finish with 3/4" Silicon bronze RS nails
 

 

 

Attaching Gunwale

  • Gunwales from two laminations of 3/4" x 1" with a 11 degree precut bevel on inner lamination
  • PL Premium adhesive
  • Use #6 x 3/4" screws to hold inner gunwale in place
  • Finish nailing with Silicon bronze RS nails
  • Saw gunwale flush to bow and transom
  • All outside seams--chines, transom edges, bow, butt joints are sealed 3" fiberglass tape & epoxy
  • Finish 2 coats Painter's Touch exterior latex primer, 3 topcoats of Painter's Touch exterior latex finish
  • Sand between each coat
  • Inside--3 coats of Marine spar varnish, first coat thinned 1:2
